Earlier today, video emerged of a large man punching a small woman in the face on the subway, and literally no one intervened. To be fair, one man shouted at the guy AFTER the assault, which accomplished nothing. Some pointed out that she had just told the man that he needed to take a chill pill. Fair enough…. but that doesn’t justify an assault.
I put out a post challenging men. I asked why so many men would allow a woman with her children to be assaulted in their presence. I pointed out a piece of Tactical Wisdom from the Ultimate Tactical Handbook:
Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked
Psalm 82:4
That’s a clear and direct command, straight from God via King David, telling you to defend those who cannot defend themselves.
If you will not stand for your principles, you don’t have any.
I got a lot of responses from men, explaining all the reasons that they could not come to this woman’s defense. “My job”, “my family”, and fear of prosecution all were among the excuses offered.
Now, I wasn’t asking men to take up arms and resist the ever-encroaching federal government or resist a Chinese invasion, I was asking them to step up and protect someone from a criminal attack. A small woman.
I would like to point that if someone had intervened when the man began shouting and acting in a threatening way by speaking up and letting the man know that others would not tolerate his abuse, the ENTIRE ASSAULT PROBABLY WOULDN’T HAVE HAPPENED AT ALL.
Professionally, I was at a shopping mall a few weeks ago, when a man who stealing was confronted by store staff. He shouted that if she didn’t leave him alone, he was going to assault her, remarkably like what happened today. I stepped up and said “You know I’m not going to let that happen, right? You need to calm down.” Rather than escalating the situation, it instantly diffused it. He returned the items he stole and fled, but no assault happened. If I had chosen to worry about my job and not gotten involved, she would have pushed the issue, and he would have assaulted her. DO SOMETHING.
The whole thing reminded me of the opening scenes of The Patriot, when Benjamin Martin says that he cannot fight, because he must worry about his family. Another member of the Assembly says that family can be a convenient excuse for cowardice. He’s right. I know what you’re thinking, but surely Benjamin was the Hero of the movie, so he must have been right. Well, what Benjamin got for his forbearance, was the State arresting one of his children, killing another, destroying his business, and burning his house to the ground (sound familiar?). Benjamin then MUST fight. All he did was delay the fight, while causing even worse things to happen to his family.
Why do I bring up a fictional movie to make a point? Because the point made is that delaying taking a stand doesn’t mean you get to avoid it forever, and had he STOOD UP EARLIER, maybe the other tragedies could have been avoided.
This piece of Tactical Wisdom is convicting of men who think like this:
If you falter in a time of trouble,
how small is your strength!
Proverbs 24:10
A similar phenomenon occurred a few weeks prior, when a woman was raped on a train in the presence of many witnesses. I also pointed this out after an Islamic terrorist shot up a Denver grocery and no one ran to the aid of the victims. I got the same responses in both of those.
I challenge that these same men, if THEIR wives were attacked on the subway, would be demanding to know why no other men protected their wives. They can deny it all they want, it’s true. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean it’s not true.
Men, you are called and Biblically commanded to TAKE ACTION:
Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
Proverbs 24:11
The fact that men are able to justify not getting involved over fear of losing their jobs or being arrested for defending a victim is why America is in the predicament that she is in. Men are unwilling to take a stand against anything out of fear of “rocking the boat” or making their lives uncomfortable in any way.
THAT IS CALLED SURRENDER. A few weeks ago, I quoted Patrick Henry’s famous speech. In that speech, he said, “Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?”. It’s a good point.
Crime is increasing because we are allowing it to flourish. No one is opposing the criminals, so they feel emboldened to attack, rob, and steal with impunity. The police aren’t the answer, they come AFTER the crime. We are the answer. Do you think that doing nothing will make it better? Again, Patrick Henry says it best: “Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction?”
The ironic part is that the same men who explained why they couldn’t resist, spend their evenings on Twitter complaining about vaccine mandates, federal over-reach, and the reduction of their freedoms, yet they are unwilling to do anything about it. They will complain, and demand that “someone” do something, just not them.
Some of them even talk about their “red lines”. I tell you this: If you would not step up and defend an innocent attacked in your presence, YOU HAVE NO RED LINES. There is nothing the government could do that you would resist because you need your job. If they show up and demand to inject your kids with experimental vaccines and threaten to take the kids if you don’t consent, YOU MEN will consent. If they demand you get on the train, YOU MEN will do it.
Who will rise up for me against the wicked?
Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?
Psalm 94:16
For those who told me they couldn’t resist because “I have a responsibility to my family” I say this: You are putting your family at risk by not taking action. Every criminal act unopposed breeds more crime. That’s just a fact.
Men, the time is rapidly approaching where you will have a choice: Surrender or fight for your family’s freedom.
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Like my good Friend used to almost mindlessly repeat…
“We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand watch as our guardians in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm. A soldier must seize every advantage to defeat his opponent. He must strike swiftly and strike hard… he who dares… wins. But under all circumstances those guardians must stand ready to protect the innocent and those too weak to defend themselves…”
Often spoken quote of New Zealander Martin O. of my unit 1RLI Support Commando, Killed In Action – Africa 1979 – He was my friend.
